Pit

Pit excavation
for determining the character of a terrain
This rapid and low cost examination technique enables
us to reach moderate depths of 3-4m in terrains excavated by mechanical
means in soils that are preferably cohesive and without underground
water.
By observing this terrain we can recognise and identify
the different lithological units, study the stratigraphy and check
the strength of each of the units.
We can also obtain the parameters which, although
they are qualitative, are also indispensable for classifying the
geomechanical behaviour of the units observed:
- The excavatability or rippability of the lithological units
- The stability of the walls of the excavation
Lastly this type of investigation enables us to
obtain soil samples from the required levels for a laboratory analysis
of the ground.
