Sclerometer
or Schmidt Hammer
With
this apparatus on-site tests can be carried out which allow us
to estimate the resistance of rock to simple compression.
It is widely used as it
is easy to transport, permitting a large number of measurements
in a short amount of time, and it can be applied both on a rocky
matrix as well as on the walls of a discontinuity.
The test measures the rebound
resistance of the surface of the rock being tested. This measurement
is correlated with the resistance to simple compression of the
rock using Miller´s correlative graph.
